We are thrilled to announce that Gravity Sketch will be one of the first titles to launch on Meta Quest Pro, continuing its mission to unleash designers’ creativity in 3D, and revolutionize traditional design and engineering processes. The platform empowers anyone involved in the stages of a design process, and their stakeholders, to iterate, share, and discuss 3D creations at scale.

The 3D objects we interact with daily have a reliance on 2D mediums used in the product development processes. Whether cars, shoes, furniture, movies and games — the switching between 2D and 3D tools in a workflow creates more back-and-forth between teams, adding to the complexity of a design process. Gravity Sketch’s collaborative 3D-first approach nurtures better communication of ideas, designs, models and feedback as they’re experienced together in mixed reality or on a screen.

Gravity Sketch ensures a more sustainable workflow for the companies who have adopted it as part of their process; designers can test real-life constraints on 3D models in full scale, which means better-informed decisions on the direction of a product are being made faster. Physical prototyping and in-person approval is reduced, minimizing materials and travel.

Companies like Miro and Figma have already disrupted the 2D workspace, shaking up how teams would traditionally work together to design software; they enable collaboration and co-creation quickly, and inclusively, in online workspaces. Now, Gravity Sketch is set to change how products are designed.

2D pen and paper sketches have to be created, visualized and rendered in 3D before production. We’ve all witnessed how sharing and reviewing these designs via video tools or standalone collaboration platforms can add to the complexity of the design, engineering and manufacturing teams working together”, reveal co-founders and veteran industrial designers Oluwaseyi Sosanya (CEO) and Daniela Paredes Fuentes (CXO).

Design cycles structured in this way could take up to 24 months. We believe that the easier you make it for more, diverse, voices to contribute to the development process, the better performing products will be. This requires new ways of working that can be achieved by embracing the latest technologies such as VR.

The launch of the Meta Quest Pro will dramatically improve the VR experience for creatives, and further democratize VR within the design industry as a whole. With an increasing need for designs and models to be created and reviewed remotely, and technological advancements opening up better communication tools, it’s the ideal time for companies to shift to a collaborative 3D design pipeline.

As such, Gravity Sketch has announced new inclusive functionality supported by the Meta Quest Pro’s latest features:

Stylus: Have the option to sketch as you would with a pen, through the use of the Quest Pro controller’s stylus tip. Bring existing ways of working into VR for a more natural, intuitive sketching experience.

Color passthrough: Merge the physical and digital worlds in MR to bring creations closer to reality. Design around objects, or enable stakeholders to visualize creations as they would appear in the real world. This makes for better iterations informed by the environment.

Local spatial anchors: Lock sketches and designs in place or onto a surface in mixed reality. Observe designs in situ from all angles, switch to editing, and return to the saved position to view the effects in context.

Avatars: Use Meta avatars within Gravity Sketch to show your facial expressions and eye movement. Allow everyone involved in a design workflow to express themselves more realistically when working collaboratively in VR.
